About — Capt. Robert Horachek

Continuing a legacy.

Capt. Robert Horachek brings more than 30 years of Florida Keys fishing experience to every charter.

01 The Story

Kingfisher Backcountry Charters is named for my late uncle’s charter boat, the Kingfisher — and built to carry his legacy forward while I create one of my own.

02 The Captain

Thirty years on the water.

Welcome to Kingfisher Backcountry Charters. My name is Capt. Robert Horachek, and I bring more than 30 years of fishing experience in the Florida Keys to every trip. I founded Kingfisher Backcountry Charters, Inc. in honor of my late uncle and his charter boat, the Kingfisher. He was an exceptional fisherman and charter captain whose passion, dedication, and perseverance inspired me to never give up.

Join me on an unforgettable fishing adventure as we target some of the Florida Keys’ most sought-after species, including Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, and a variety of other flats and backcountry game fish. Whether you’re an experienced angler or casting a line for the very first time, anglers of all ages and skill levels are welcome aboard.

03 On the Record

A lifetime of achievements.

As a lifelong resident of the Florida Keys, my time on the water has been a journey of milestones — earning “Junior Master Angler” status in two season-long tournaments, the Key West Fishing Tournament and the South Florida MET Tournament, and landing an 80-lb wahoo at 13 years old that stood as a junior world record through the IGFA.

Over the years I shifted from offshore to the inshore and backcountry fishing I love today. My goal on every charter is simple: deliver the best professional guide service I can, find success out on the water, and send you home with lasting memories and stories worth telling.

04 The Skiff

2013 Maverick HPX 18.

My boat is a 2013 Maverick HPX 18 rigged with a 2018 Mercury 115 Pro XS four-stroke. It fishes up to three anglers comfortably and gets skinny on the flats, yet eats up the chop while cruising at 30–35 mph so we reach the next spot in good time — without getting beat up.

From the poling platform I can put us in great position to intercept the big three — tarpon, bonefish, and permit — and the live well keeps bait fresh whether we’re on the water or trailering between spots. For the way I guide, it’s the perfect skiff.
